Ten Year Trend: Buyers Increase Term Length
October 07, 2024
The average length of retail electricity supply contracts between ENGIE and end-use customers has been increasing steadily over the past decade. Ten years ago, contract lengths were consistently under two years. In recent years, the average term has exceeded or hovered around three years. In the wake of winter storm Uri, ENGIE saw the longest terms with 38 months in 2021 and 39 months in 2022. This was a flight-to-quality period amid upheaval in the retail market. Customers sought stability and financial strength as several suppliers defaulted on their commitments.
