Massachusetts Clean Energy Standard – Expansion was finalized and approved by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) and the Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) on July 10, 2020. The 2020 amendment to the CES program creates a new and separate purchase requirement from existing resources in operation prior to 2010. For 2021 and 2022, the “CES-E” standard is set at 20%. Beginning in 2023 until 2050, the percentage will adjust inversely with load. This is done so that the payments to the resources remain constant through future years of fluctuating consumption levels, i.e. when load decreases, the percentage increases and when load increases the percentage decreases. If you purchased an energy contract with us on or after October 4, 2019, this incremental cost will be charged to you as a customer beginning January 2021 through the end date of the term specified on your contract.
