Shawnee Mountain Commits to Sustainability
September 09, 2024
Located in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, Shawnee Mountain Ski Area is a premier ski destination and is a rare gem in winter recreation. From November to March each year, more than 130,000 visitors will ski and snow tube through the area in eastern Pennsylvania.
The sector is capital and energy intensive, using 3.5 to 4.3 kWh of energy to produce each cubic meter of snow. ENGIE continues to bring renewable solutions from our assets to small and mid-sized customers. A recent addition is Shawnee Mountain Ski Area.
In June 2024, Shawnee Mountain executed a 4-year renewable energy agreement to match 100% of its forecast annual load of 6,116 MWh with Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) from our Priddy Wind Project in Texas. The Green-e® certified RECs in this agreement avoid the greenhouse gas emissions of 2,501 metric tons of CO2 equivalent, or the CO2 emissions from 2.8 million pounds of coal burned.
We are proud to provide a planet-friendly solution for this picturesque setting.
