Shale Profits Surge, Methane Charges Loom

Bloomberg reports that the U.S. shale producers will make $200 billion this year, erasing the industry’s debt and funding a pivot to more natural gas production.

The Inflation Reduction Act does include charges to address methane. The charge starts at $900 per metric ton of methane and rises to $1,500 per ton after two years.
