NYISO Lays Out Plan For Energy Storage In Wholesale Markets
December 06, 2017
NYISO released a report that ushers in the process of developing a model for energy storage resources to participate in the state’s wholesale markets. It lays out a timeline for integration, development, and deployment of a new market participation model for front-of-the-meter energy storage resources that are 0.1 MW and larger. Storage technologies could include pumped hydroelectric generators, flywheels, and batteries capable of withdrawing electricity from the grid to alleviate excess supply. Bringing storage to the markets could be achieved by 2020, according to the report.
