NY Offshore Projects Reborn
New York state announced plans to cement electricity agreements with two new offshore wind farms being developed in the Atlantic Ocean. Both projects are near Long Island.
The contracts replace the original agreements, which were cancelled by rising construction costs. The state is pushing forward on its green energy goals, which include the development of 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy by 2035.
Combined, the offshore developments will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 3 million metric tons annually, the equivalent annual emissions of over 740,000 cars.
