May 22, 2023
Since May began, daily U.S. nuclear outages have been above both last year’s total and the 2018-2022 range. As of Friday, May 19, 12.6GW, or 13 percent of total U.S. capacity, was offline. This is approximately the equivalent of 4,500 wind turbines. Current nuclear outages exceed the previous year's 9.4GW and the five-year range of 8.7GW – 10.4GW. (Source: EIA)
