July 25, 2022
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation has released the 2022 State of Reliability Report. This assessment of 2021 bulk power system performance offers some key findings. Electricity and natural gas interdependency requires immediate attention and mitigating approaches. Extreme weather events put grid resilience into focus, as do geopolitics, changing technologies and cyber criminals. Solar PV inverters are under scrutiny to reduce reliability risks associated with dependency on renewables to meet peak loads. The 93-page report offers recommendations on transmission and generation availability, misoperation and an overview of actions in progress.
