ISO-NE Seeks To Keep 1,600 MW Of Gas Generation From Retirement
April 09, 2018
ISO-New England will ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for permission to keep two gas-fired units at Exelon’s Mystic Generating Station online, saying their retirement could threaten reliability. Retirement of the units – which contribute about 1,600 MW of generation in the winter – would pose an “unacceptable fuel security risk to the region during the winter months,” the grid operator said. ISO-NE will later seek tariff-based solutions to prevent such reliability risks from retirement in the future. Market participants are set to discuss the filing April 25.
