Feds Focus on Solar Supply Chain

The U.S. Department of Commerce is investigating the circumvention of tariffs on solar products from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam and has caused the cancellation or delay of solar panel deliveries, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. Approximately 80% of the solar panels installed in the U.S. last year came from these nations.
The investigation was prompted by a petition from a U.S. manufacturer which asked Commerce to study whether Chinese companies set up factories in Southeast Asia to avoid tariffs. Imported crystalline silicon solar products that convert sunlight to energy face a tariff of 15 percent for the next four years.
