DOE Boosts Hydrogen Hubs
December 02, 2024
The Department of Energy recently finalized awards for two Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs in the United States.
The Gulf Coast Hydrogen Hub in Texas will receive a $1.2 billion grant, and the Midwest Hydrogen Hub will receive a $1 billion grant.
The nation’s seven hydrogen hubs are expected to produce millions of metric tons of hydrogen per year, with the goal of reaching the 2030 U.S. production target and lowering emissions from hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors that represent 30 percent of total U.S. carbon emissions.
Green hydrogen is seen as an essential component of the energy mix:
- Store energy and make it available when renewables are not producing electricity
- Develop more sustainable forms of mobility, and
- Decarbonize industrial uses.
