Consumer Sentiment Lowest Since 2022
March 24, 2025
The University of Michigan preliminary survey of consumer sentiment for March dropped by 11% to 57.9. It was the lowest reading since 2022. The index of consumer expectations also slid, down 15.3% M-O-M and 30% Y-O-Y. Year-end inflation expectations also increased.
“Many consumers cited the high level of uncertainty around policy and other economic factors; frequent gyrations in economic policies make it very difficult for consumers to plan for the future, regardless of one’s policy preferences.”
