Bipartisan Support for Nuclear?
November 18, 2024
There appears to be at least one issue that has bipartisan political support. Both the outgoing White House administration and the incoming regime seem to agree that the U.S. needs a resurgence in nuclear power generating capacity.
The Biden administration, according to Bloomberg, is forming plans for the U.S. to triple nuclear power capacity by 2050. The U.S. would build, update and restart assets that deliver an additional 200 GW including an additional annual 15 GW per year by 2040.
A roadmap for the administration’s plan can be viewed here:

Utility Dive reports that President-elect Trump enacted pro-nuclear policies during his first term and has recently expressed support for small modular technologies. Conversely, he has questioned cost overruns and appropriations for large scale projects.
