Accelerating the Transition to Net-Zero
January 03, 2025
Is net zero by 2050 achievable? The World Economic Forum Net Zero Industry Tracker 2024 offers a snapshot of where we stand, through a data-driven assessment of the energy transition progress in eight critical sectors which account for around 40% of global GHG emissions.
Demand for these heavy industries and transport sectors is expected to grow by over 60% by 2050, underscoring their importance to the global economy. Achieving net zero will require an estimated $30 trillion in additional capital, alongside efforts to improve energy efficiency, adopt clean fuels, transition to low-carbon power sources, and scale CCUS technologies. For energy buyers, this highlights the urgency to embrace clean energy solutions—not just for sustainability, but to mitigate financial risks and ensure long-term business resilience.
